On May 12, the National Assembly approved the submitted legislative initiatives on the changes and additions to the Energy, the Energy Saving and Renewable Energy laws, as well as in a number of adjacent laws.
The legislative changes will allow the individuals and legal entities to install solar panels for their own needs, to produce electricity and to sell the excess to electricity networks.
The whole process will be exempted from taxes. Up to 150 kW rated capacity does not require a license for the installation of equipment.

The state policy on energy saving and renewable energy sector after the implemented changes will be based on mandatory technical requirements to ensure adequate energy savings and energy efficiency for energy-intensive sectors.
By the Government's decision the branches of economy will be classified according to energy intensity with the aim of using of the mandatory technical requirements of energy saving and energy efficiency in the objects to be built (restored, renovated) at the expense of public funds in future.
The marketing conditions of the energy-efficient appliances, equipment and products threatening the human life, environment (containing hazardous materials) including the further suspension of use, will be established by the decision of the Government at the domestic consumption market.
As a result of changes expected, there will be created new and clean ("green") technologies in the energy system, in the medium term, including a number of new production capacities using the solar energy, which will greatly ease the burden of existing stations, reducing dependence on imported hydrocarbon fuels.
Thus, the Armenian economy will be diversified in terms of securing the alternative energy supplies and implementation of new technologies, will increase the level of the country's energy independence.
